Here are the results from the 'mock' competition held Monday night, March 29 at BCAF.
TS = the number of touches the fencer scored; TR = the number of times the fencer was hit, or Touches Received; IND = indicators, which is the number of touches scored minus touches received.
In case of a tie in victories, the tie is broken by indicators. If that is a tie, as was the case with our first & second place fencers, the fencer with the most touches scored is declared the winner.
In a real competition, the competition committee could have the two fencers fence a final bout for placement, with the winner taking first place & the loser taking second. Most competitions would have another round of fencing after this one known as Direct Elimination (DE).
In DE's, the fencers are paired and fence a series of three 5-touch bouts. Whoever wins two bouts in the series first is declared the winner & advances to fence another winner; the loser of the series is eliminated.
I'd like to thank Maestro Flint, Luke, Matt, Trevor, Juanita, Debbie & Lisa for all their help with this competition. Thanks should also go to the parents who were VERY patient when we started running late!!!
Congratulations and a nice job to all the fencers!!!
