Here are some fencing-related trivia questions.  All answers can be found either within this site or by using this site.  I'll be adding more questions soon...just click on the drop-box for the answers!

  1. Who is the only man to win four consecutive NCAA fencing titles?
  2. Who is the only woman to win four consecutive NCAA fencing titles?
  3. Who has coached the most NCAA championship teams?
  4. Only four times in NCAA history has the team hosting the championships won; the first was in 1949 when host Army tied for the championship with Rutgers.  Name the three host teams that won the championship outright.
  5. Which COUNTRY hold the record for most consecutive Olympic gold medals in an INDIVIDUAL event?  Hint: In this entire run, only one individual was a repeat winner.
  6. In Olympic history, three men have accomplished the amazing feat of winning the gold medal in two separate weapons during the same Olympic games.  Name two of them, plus the events in which the won gold.
  7. Who holds the U.S. record for most consecutive National Championships?
  8. Who holds the record for total U.S. Epee championships?
  9. Who holds the record for total U.S. foil championships (men or women)?
  10. Who is the only man to win all three weapons in the same year?
 

Fun Facts
Jeanne-Louise Calment (1875-1997), the oldest authenticated person in history at 122 years old, took up fencing at age 85 (source: Guiness World Records).
 
The greatest number of individual world titles won is five, by Russia's Aleksandr Romankov (1974, 1977, 1979, 1982, 1983). Although Romankov won five world foil titles, he was never an Olympic champion.
 
The most Olympic fencing medals won by a woman is seven (two gold, three silver, two bronze). This record-breaking tally was achieved by Hungary's Saginé-Rejtö Ildikó from 1960 to 1976. Incredibly, Ildikó was born deaf.
 
The longest span for winning an individual world or Olympic title is 20 years by Hungarian Aladar Gerevich (b. March 16, 1910) at saber, 1935-55.
 
Italy's Nedo Nadi, won three Olympic golds for fencing (one in 1912 and two in 1920). Ramón Fonst of Cuba, also won three (one in 1900 and two in 1904). Nadi also won three team gold medals in 1920.
 
The Soviet womens fencing team has won a record four Olympic gold medals (all at foil). The team took gold in 1960, 1968, 1972, and 1976. When the épée was introduced in 1996, the French team took the title. The épée is a heavier and more rigid weapon than the foil.
